Nestled in a natural bay of rare beauty, the enchanting village of Feriolo is located, known for its strategic importance at the beginning of the Valle d'Ossola as "Ferreolum Castrum" during Roman times, a significant trading hub. This former fishing and stonecutting village is an idyllic place, highly valued by nature lovers as a destination. There, one can still encounter interesting traces that bear witness to the tumultuous history of the past centuries. In the year 1283, the town came under the dependency of the Archdiocese of Milan through the statutes of Porto Valtravaglia, which was mainly based on the obligation to supply lime for the construction of the archiepiscopal castles of Feriolo, Brovello, and Angera. According to historical records, in 1652 Countess Isabella d'Adda made a pilgrimage to the church of Madonna della Scarpia just outside of Feriolo; this famous noblewoman is also the namesake of the most beautiful of the Borromean Islands: Isola Bella. Close by, opposite the Borromean Islands, are the internationally renowned holiday resorts of Baveno and Stresa, whose image along the lakeside promenade is characterized by magnificent Art Nouveau buildings. Especially this particularly beautiful part of Lake Maggiore owes its attraction to the international financial and high nobility to the construction of the Simplon Pass by Napoleon at the beginning of the 18th century, and it still is a magnet today. There are three golf courses in the immediate vicinity. In addition, there is a cable car to Mottarone (1,491 meters above sea level).
