Holiday destination
Maars, volcanoes and the tallest cold-water geyser in the world - welcome in the Eifel Nature Park! The low mountain landscape in the heart of Germany is one of the most diverse regions in the country. Just a few kilometres away, the Rhine and Moselle along with the ancient wine villages and attractive cities such as Coblenz and Andernach are well worth a visit. The Laacher See (Laach Lake) is located near the Maria Laach Abbey in the Vulkaneifel. It is the biggest lake in Rhineland-Palatinate. About 13.000 years ago, the now dormant Laach volcano erupted for the last time. Today, the Laach Lake nature reserve is a paradise for lovers of water sports and those looking for relaxation! Andernach - the ancient Roman town on the Middle Rhine is over 2000 years old and boasts the tallest cold-water geyser in the world. A ship will take you to the Namedyer Werth peninsula: The water gushes from the earth and more than 50 m high into the air. At the Geyser Centre you'll learn all the facts about geysers and volcanism. Andernach has a number of attractions, e.g. the historic old town and the Round Tower, one of the most massive fortified towers of its time. Coblenz - discover the old garrison town of Coblenz, located at the confluence of Moselle and Rhine. In the city centre you'll find countless cafes and restaurants, chic boutiques and modern shopping centres. Take the cable car to the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress and enjoy the fantastic view over the city. Starting at the "Deutsche Eck", romantic ship tours take passengers through the Middle Rhine Valley -a world heritage site- with its many castles. These tours include the world famous Loreley - the legendary rock is one of the most popular sights on the Middle Rhine.
Getting there
If you travel by car, you'll reach Nickenich via motorway A61, exit Kruft, or via motorway A48, exit Mayen, then follow the signposts or your GPS. The nearest train station is in Andernach. The town offers an extensive rail network in all directions. If you prefer to travel independently, you can use a taxi service. We already provided the (linear) distances to national and international guests who fly into the bigger cities. Upon arrival at one of the airports, a rental car or the Deutsche Bahn (train) ensure that you reach our region quickly. Contact us and we'll gladly help you with organising your trip.
