This villa is located in Vabriga, close to Poreč. Poreč tourism is more than sea, sun and tourist image. The tourists can easily recognise the city that is keeping its historical values. You can find museums, galleries and many valuable city palaces. The whole old city centre is a living cultural monument. Poreč’s streets are home to numerous atelier galleries. A good way to get to know Istria is through its exceptional gastronomy. The first restaurant is 400m from the villa. The first beach is in walking distance, at 1.8 km from the villa. While staying in this villa, don't miss to visit the Euphrasian Basilica. It's was built in the middle of the 6th century in the Byzantine style and it's considered to be one of most beautiful works of art in the world. Since in Poreč you have at your disposal different kinds of sports (tennis, beach volleyball, soccer, horse riding, biking, hiking, water sports) it is an attractive tourist destination.
We reccomend
Marvel at Byzantine architecture
No other man-made sight in Croatia is as stunning as the Euphrasian Basilica by the northern shore of the Poreč peninsula. It was here that the first Christians in the area worshipped – several places of worship, and a Roman villa, were built here before Bishop Euphrasius himself got to work in the mid 500s AD. The complex is quite extensive and you’ll need at least a couple of hours to explore it, taking in the baptistry, the bell tower and what’s left of the Bishop’s Palace from where Euphrasius directed operations. And there’s little doubt this is his work, the bishop having left his likenesses and inscriptions all over the strikingly bright mosaics around the Basilica. Glittering gold colouring and sparkling semi-precious gems all feature amid the sumptuous mosaics, a pristine example of Early Byzantine architecture. Construction is said to have taken ten years, though various elements, such as the 13th-century cimborium based on St Mark’s in Venice, were added much later.
Try then buy Istrian wines
Close to the Euphrasian Basilica on Eufrazijeva ulica, Bacchus is wine bar, eaterie and delicatessen all in one, all purveying authentic but affordable Istrian products. Malvazija, Muškat and red Refošk are sold by the glass, allowing you sit outside on the rustic terrace on a pretty open courtyard. Family-made rakijagrappas – honey-flavoured medica, biškafrom mistletoe and fig-based smokva – may also be sampled. Istrian platters of smoked hams, cheeses and olives can be shared among two or four people, and there are sardine, seafood and truffle versions too.
Go waterskiing
Opened with a live show by Elvis Jackson in 2010, the Ski Lift Poreč near the Zelena Laguna holiday camp and Byblos nightspot is a station that provides access to a cable 650 metres in length. Several kinds of waterborne activities can be tried here, including wakeboarding and mono-ski slaloming. Beginners can pay by the hour for instruction and practice, with helmet and equipment thrown in for a few extra kunas. The Ski Lift station doubles up as a summer attraction even for those not taking part, as its bar and restaurant are popular hangouts. There’s also beach volleyball, sand football and various other land-based games alongside. Ski Lift Poreč stays open from Easter to the middle of November.
Dive from Brulo to Žontulo
In operation since the early 2000s, the Diving Centre Poreč offers both instruction and guided dives to sites around the area, as far as the Limski kanal and Rovinj. Beginners can start with a basic two-hour scuba session, culminating in a first sea dive, while those with slightly more experience can search for starfish and seafish in the shallow waters of Uvala Brulo on the doorstep. More seasoned divers then explore Žontulo, Frižital reef and around Sveti Nikola island. Diving Centre Poreč holds a special permit from the Croatian Ministry of Culture, meaning that it can take the most experienced divers to the wreck of the Coriolanus, a Royal Navy trawler that sank with 40 men on 5th May 1945, two days before the German surrender was signed.
Cycle the Parenzana
Built in 1902, left to rust after 1935, the Parenzana was a narrow-gauge rail that ran from Trieste, winding through the bucolic Istrian interior before terminating at Poreč. In those days, this was all Italy and Poreč was Parenzo, hence the name. Running for over 60 kilometres, it has gradually been revived, section by section, by local outdoor enthusiasts. There’s even a short stretch of rail, between Motovun and Vižinada, plied by a tourist train. Mostly, though, the Parenzana is patronised by cyclists and hikers, and regularly facilitated with improvements such as maps, benches, bike racks and service stations equipped with air pumps and repair kits. In September, it stages the three-day MTB Parenzana race, one of many events in a busy cycling calendar.
Explore underground lakes
Halfway from Poreč to Višnjan, the Baredine Cave has been a major tourist attraction since opening to the public in 1995. Tours are advertised all over Poreč. You can travel here independently – there’s a car park right outside – but all visits are guided ones, and take place every 30 minutes, in English among other languages. You’re first led along a pathway 300 metres long before reaching 60 metres deep, where you find underground lakes and five otherworldly chambers filled with ancient stalactites and stalagmites. In the waters you should see the strange-looking olm, or European cave salamander, blind and pink, hence its alternative name of the human fish in Croatian. Given its appearance and habitat – it does everything underwater – the olm has been the subject of many a local legend. Tours last 40 minutes. Wear decent shoes, hold on to the railings when negotiating slippery stairs and be prepared for a fair climb back up.

Poreč is a town located in the heart of the western coast of the Istrian peninsula, in Istria County. The city is almost 2,000 years old; the remains of ancient temples and forums are spread throughout the old city centre. The most valuable and recognizable cultural and historical monument is the Euphrasian Basilica, present on UNESCO World Heritage List, dating back to the 6th century.
Today the city is a vibrant and modern place balancing perfectly between history and present. The language spoken in Poreč is Croatian, but due to its history, it is not unusual to hear Italian language on the streets. Last recorded number of Poreč population has shown that there are around 16,700 inhabitants; their main occupation includes olive and fruit growing, fishing and tourism.
Poreč is a popular tourist destination famous for its beautiful natural landscape, a long tradition in tourism and several well-equipped tourist resorts. The Mediterranean climate with mild winters and warm summers makes the city enjoyable to visitors all year round. Summer season is perfect for beach fun, swimming and sunbathing, while in the off-season you can avoid the crowds and enjoy the town peacefully .
A few kilometres outside Novigrad, Istralandia is a large aquapark complex with six pools, including a children’s spray arena, and 15 kinds of slides. Kids can try the Black Kamikaze, Family Rafting and, for toddlers, Crazy Hills. As of 2019, there will be a new feature, Space Combo, offering nearly 200 metres of space adventure in a rubberised vehicle with full visual effects. Other attractions include beach football, beach volleyball, concerts and all kinds of courses and workshops.
Situated on the west coast of Istria, Rovinj is one of the most popular and most developed tourist resorts in Croatia. The old town is built on the island, which was only connected with the mainland in the 18th century. Known as one of the most picturesque and romantic towns on Mediterranean, over the last few decades Rovinj attracts a large number of tourists, most of them faithfully returning year after year. Why do they come back? Maybe it is the breath of past times felt as you walk around old town's cobbled narrow streets. Or is it maybe its 22 islands and islets, the mild Mediterranean climate, carefully designed parks, the tidiness of its streets, the friendliness of the local population or numerous and varied town events. Or all of it!
Rovinj manages to combine, in a very interesting way, its rich tradition with the modern times. As it is also an active fishing port, you can experience the atmosphere of a small fishing village, especially during the popular fishermen’s festivities or at one of the traditional taverns called Spacio (in the past, very popular among fishermen). On the other hand, the town has been developing an exquisite gastronomy and offers a high standard of tourist services in general.
The city at the foot of the Church of St. Euphemia is the favorite gathering place of artists from around the world. Walking down its streets, you'll bump into many art galleries and studios, whilst once a year, in August, you have the possibility to attend the largest open-air exhibition of the Adriatic coast, which takes place in one of the main old-town streets - Grisia.
It is almost impossible to list all Rovinj's attractions, so we suggest visiting it and surrendering to its beauty… We are sure that it will win you over and that sooner or later, you’ll come to visit Rovinj again.
What to see and do in Umag
Although it dates back to the ancient times, Umag has preserved only the Medieval architecture. The remnants of this are seen in the city walls, Venetian villas, picturesque streets… As already mentioned, the Old Town is now on a peninsula which was once an island. In the 10th century the city walls were built around the settlement and which was connected to the mainland by a drawbridge.
The best preserved building is also the oldest one – the west tower which houses the Museum of the City.
In the centre there is a square with the church of the Assumption of Mary.
A little bit outside Umag, in Savudrija, you can visit the oldest lighthouse in Croatia. It was built in 1818 and there is a legend about its construction. Metternich, an Austrian count, fell in love with a Croatian lady at a Viennese ball so he had this lighthouse built only for her. However, she got ill and never got to see it, so the count decided to never again visit the lighthouse.
In Umag, and some other Istrian cities as well, Sole Fish Days are held every year. This manifestation lasts for a month and is held in restaurants which offer 4 course menus based on common sole, accompanied by excellent Istrian wines and olive oil.
In order to prolong the wellness season, Umag offers the days of wellness, Welldays, which take place during October. Three hotel wellness centres offer special packages which include staying in a comfortable hotel, half-board service and daily entrance to the wellness center.
Music lovers can enjoy the UmagoBlues music festival and taste some of the local specialties.
Another festival is Umagination which is a festival of electronic music taking place in Umag for four years.
What Umag is most famous for is the ATP Croatian Open Umag tennis tournament which takes place every year in July.
Generally speaking, in terms of sport, there is always something going on in Umag whether it is about tennis, football, golf…
