Egmond aan Zee is located in the municipality of Bergen in the province of North Holland. The village was originally a fishing village, but has been increasingly influenced by tourism since the beginning of the last century. Egmond aan Zee has an 8-kilometer-long sandy beach, making it particularly popular with families. This friendly place offers a variety of restaurants, beach pavilions and shops that are open daily all year round. A well-known event is the half marathon. Take a tour of these places by (electric) bike: you can discover even more of the beautiful surroundings via the fantastic cycling routes. Bergen is a shady, charming village with chic villas, monumental buildings, remarkable galleries, exclusive shops and interesting museums. Through the forest and dune area, you come via Bergen to Schoorl with the highest dune in the Netherlands and a real climbing dune. Instructive in combination with a visit to the Bezoekerscentrum of the State Forestry Authority. At the PWN Visitor Centre in Castricum you can also learn everything you need to know about the flora and fauna in and around Egmond. In a beautiful and interactive way, you can learn everything about our dunes, the dune animals, the water and much more in the indoor and outdoor areas through the sensational (nature) exhibitions, (children's) activities, play and hut building in the forest, exploration tours and the starting point for numerous hikes.
From Egmond, the cheese town of Alkmaar is also an excellent tip for a day trip. From April to the beginning of September, the cheese bell is rung every Friday at 10 a.m. on the Waagplein. It is simply fascinating to see how the cheese carriers carry their cheese on the wooden stretchers towards the Waaggebouw. Afterwards, visit the surprisingly remarkable Cheese Museum, discover the wonderful shopping streets of the old town and have a fun day in historic Alkmaar.
