In the busy, trendy city center district there are numerous pubs, bars and clubs as well as small craft shops and studios. The established cultural scene includes plays in the Rostock Volkstheater, art films in the Wundervoll cinema and live music in the M.A.U. Riverside club.
Rostock's city center, including its historic old town, offers some experiences and highlights during a visit. Since its founding, Rostock has been repeatedly associated with the number "seven", which stands for seven towers, seven gates or even seven streets from the new market. The “Rostock 7” also includes the city’s 7 churches. What of it is still there today? Go looking for clues! The imposing brick Gothic churches of St. Marien or St. Petri shaped Rostock's soul with their stories.
St. Mary's with its mighty western building is a masterpiece of North German brick Gothic and has a rich interior with the baroque high altar, the organ, sermon pulpit and baptismal font. During guided discovery tours you will gain insights into the vault, the tower with bells and the organ system. Seen from the outside, St. Mary's Church with the gabled houses and the town hall opposite forms an impressive Hanseatic ensemble.
At 117 m, St. Petri is the highest church in Rostock. Climb the viewing platform at a height of 45 m using the spiral staircase or elevator and be fascinated by the unique view over the city harbor to Warnemünde.
