Take a tour to these places with an (electric) bicycle: you will discover even more of the beautiful surroundings through the fantastic cycling routes. Bergen is a shady, enchanting village with chic villas, monumental buildings, remarkable galleries, exclusive shops, and interesting museums. Through the forest and dune area, you reach Schoorl with the highest dune in the Netherlands and a real climbing dune. Educational in combination with a visit to the Bezoekerscentrum of the State Forestry Service. Also, at the PWN Bezoekerscentrum in Castricum, you can learn all about the flora and fauna in and around Egmond. In an indoor and outdoor setting, you can learn all about our dunes, the dune animals, the water, and much more through sensational (nature) exhibitions, (children's) activities, play and hut building in the forest, exploration tours, and the starting point for numerous hikes.
From Egmond, the cheese city of Alkmaar is also an excellent tip for a day trip. From April to early September, every Friday at 10 a.m., the cheese bell is rung on the Waagplein. It's simply fascinating to see the cheese carriers carry their cheese on wooden barrows towards the Waaggebouw. Afterward, visit the surprisingly remarkable Cheese Museum, discover the wonderful shopping streets of the old town, and have a fun day in historic Alkmaar.
