Holiday destination
Douliana is a small traditional village , 22 km. East from Chania city, in an area of great natural beauty. This village (among a total of 300 for Greece) has been awarded the title of the national conservation area of beauty “NATURA”, keeping agriculture as main activity.
Old houses have been reconstructed for holidays and provide a view over traditional life according to seasons.(olives and oranges in Winter , vegetables and fruits in Summer, wine in Autumn) There are two taverns with traditional Cretan cuisine, and a mini market with local products.
Beaches near by: Village road, drive to the sea front at 3 kms , surrounded by forest, leads to the nearest beaches KERA is at 2.5 km in distance, and at 3 km from the beach of Almirida or Kalives where are Super Markets-newspapers-restaurants-bars- sporting activities center.

We stayed for 3 weeks while trying to finalise the purchase of a property in a nearby village. Consequently we knew the location and love it's tranquility yet closeness to the sea. The village has a lovely kafenion and there is a very good restaurant within 100 metres of Anna's place.
It is a small complex which has beautiful terraces, trees and gardens all of which are kept immaculately. Anna is a lovely and charming host and if it is necessary to make another trip we will definitely try to stay there again.

We had a wonderful relaxing 10 days at Anna's place in August 2021 with our 4 year old, during a heatwave and covid restrictions.
The village is very small and peaceful with nice walks nearby. There is a tiny 'deli' type shop but it doesn't have essentials like milk etc, for that you need to go to Vamos, Kalives or Almirida. The beach at Almirida was lovely- a pretty bay with shallow water ideal for kids and some nice restaurants and cafes. We walked to the beach one day but it took almost an hour which was hard in the heat. It's only a 15 minute drive to the beach though.
The small shared pool on-site was also great for us, as was the adjacent traditional restaurant which seemed to attract locals and tourists alike. We found the studio apartment to have everything we needed and was cleaned several times during our short stay. Anna and her family were friendly and accommodating. Thank you for a great holiday.
