Swimming in the sea - our favorite bathing place at Populonia. Also worth seeing is Alto Populonia on the hill above the Gulf of Baratti - in the quarries of Carrara (we recommend a guided tour) - in our "house and surroundings" brochure (which we send you by mail), we will share further personal experiences to excursions, shopping, restaurants, etc. with you.
Holiday destination
It is a place to live and relax in beautiful countryside, in the cultural center of Tuscany. Also worth a visit is the perhaps less well-known medieval Volterra, "the city of the Etruscans and the city of the alabaster", the remarkable Guarnacci Museum, the fortified Palazzo dei Priori (Town Hall) from 1208, or the cathedral (12th century) with a simple facade, beautiful pulpit, frescoes and sculptures.
Getting there
Over Pisa exit Airport: When coming from Pisa Airport: From the airport, take the Pisa-Livorno-Firenze motorway. Take the exit Ponsacco / Pontedera and then turn left towards Volterra. You will pass some places. Then take the road sign to Volterra. If you go straight ahead, you will come to Saline di Volterra and then you have to go to Volterra, as from the coast. At the end of the road, turn left and you will find the Hotel-Restaurant "Mulino d'Era". Shortly afterwards turn left (not on the right direction Volterra!) And cross the bridge. Immediately after the bridge, turn right again on the road S.R.439 dir. Follow the S.R.439 to km 16 and then turn left on the country road towards Pignano / Palagione. The trail leads past a farm (left), then over a bridge and then uphill. After another house (left), turn right into a side path with a red and white barrier. At the entrance is our sign "Il Villino". Enter this side path. At the first gate entrance ("Tre Querce") turn right after another 150 m "Il Villino". Via Cecina (exit north) Motorway Livorno to Cecina. Exit at Cecina north towards Volterra. At the city wall of Volterra, turn right in the direction of Florence / Siena and continue to the branch "Pisa / Pontedera" (between km 42 and km 43). Turn left and continue until you reach km 16 (first possibility to turn right), then turn right on the country road towards Pignano / Palagione. The trail leads past a farm (left), then over a bridge and then uphill. After another house (left), turn right into a side path with a red and white barrier. At the entrance is our sign "Il Villino". Enter this side path. At the first gate entrance ("Tre Querce") turn right after another 150 m "Il Villino".

Wir fühlten uns im Il Villino sofort wieder wie zuhause. Das schöne Haus mit seinen vielen Zimmern, Bädern, Terrassen und Balkon war ideal für unsere 3-Gen.-Familie (6 Erw., 2 Kids). Gemeinsames Kochen, Essen, Trinken, Spielen, aber auch Rückzugsorte im Haus und im großen, gut gepflegten Garten. Der Pool war bei Temp. > 35 Grd. Gold wert. Erfrischen, Plantschen und auch Schwimmen ist gut möglich. Der Zustand des Hauses, Pools und Garten ist hervorragend. Die Küchen und Bäder sind bestens ausgestattet. Es gibt reichlich Gartenmöbel. Vor Ort schauen Lirio, Stefano und Luana zuverlässig und sympathisch nach dem Rechten. Vom Il Villino lassen sich sehr gut Ausflüge nach Sienna, Florenz, Pisa, usw. machen. Bärbel und Hermann Witzigmann, herzlichen Dank dafür, dass wir uns so wohl fühlen konnten.

Wir hatten 2019 unseren Erstkontakt mit Il Villino und Familie Witzigmann - bereits da waren wir total begeistert!!! Seither kommen wir (bis auf 1x Corona bedingt) mit der gesamten Familie (6 Erwachsene, 1 Enkelkind und der Hund) und das hohe Niveau hat sich in den Jahren nicht verändert! Da gibt es den umsichtigen Lirio, der sich sehr engagiert um die Außenanlagen und den Pool kümmert und die jederzeit bei Bedarf erreichbare Luana, der es zu verdanken ist, dass das Haus sehr sauber und ordentlich ist! Für unsere Familie gehören diese zwei Wochen in der Toskana zum Fixpunkt des Jahres. Was noch erwähnt werden sollte ist die perfekte Lage des Hauses, idyllisch mitten in der toskanischen Landschaft mit herrlichem Ausblick und zugleich ganz zentral für Städteausflüge!
